Prefabricated Brickwork

EH Smith have always been at the forefront of innovation in the use of prefabricated brickwork structures.

The Powergen Headquarters building in Coventry is a fine example of this innovation in action.

EH Smith produced a highly engineered finish by constructing panels of bricks off-site with 10mm diameter stainless rods - a first in the UK. Passing through perforations within the bricks, the rods were anchored to stainless steel angles located at the top and bottom of each panel. This project was awarded a BDA Engineering Application Award and a RIBA Regional Award.

EH Smith understook special research and had prototypes tested before supplying the ground-breaking stack bonded, post tension system of cladding to this development.

This development has since set a benchmark in the Industry. A recent EPSRC-LINK (Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council) research contract concluded that there are major advantages to be obtained in improved efficiency and the maintenance of quality by the use of brickwork prefabrication techniques with Powergen mentioned as one of two benchmark projects.
