GRC (Glass Re-inforced Concrete)

Glass Reinforced Concrete (GRC) is a thin section concrete that uses glass fibres for reinforcement as opposed to traditional steel.

The fact that the fibres will not rust like steel means that there is no real requirement for “cover” and no problems associated with the lack of it.

As such it is possible to make lightweight elements that have impressive structural qualities yet save up around 65-75% of the weight of a solid unit.

Glassfibre Reinforced Concrete is one of the most versatile building materials available to architects and engineers having only 20% of the weight of pre cast concrete, making it easier to handle on site and reducing loads on structures when in use. GRC is also strong with a higher tensile strength than precast concrete allowing thinner wall sections to be produced.

We are pleased to have supplied this material to the multi award winning Broughton Green project in Manchester. This regeneration project sought to provide quality affordable housing and the easy handling and fast construction that the GRC material afforded went some way to acheiving this.
