Hydrotect

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) is baked onto the tile surface as catalyst at high temperature and effects a reaction between light, oxygen and air humidity. Activated oxygen is produced, and the result is a hydrophilic (= "water-friendly") surface with the following advantageous properties:

  • Antibacterial: microorganisms such as e.g. fungi, algae, moss or germs are decomposed.
  • Extremely easy to clean: instead of being repelled, the water spreads to form a thin film, which washes down the dirt
  • Odour-eliminating: unwelcome or harmful odours and atmos-pheric pollutants are eliminated - both indoors and outdoors.
  • The effects are permanently conserved and activated by light again and again. Titanium dioxide is non-toxic as well as free of irritating substances and can even be added to food.

Hydrotect acts reliably and permanently through the power of light. Even normal room lighting is sufficient in order to activate the catalyst, titanium dioxide (TiO2), that is contained in the coating.

The consequence: the surface tension of water that is to be found on the tile is reduced and, as a thin film it even rises off stubborn dirt like lime scale and grease. At the same time, the photocatalytic reaction leads to the activation of oxygen in the atmosphere. As a result, bacteria are destroyed and renewed growth reliably prevented.

  Conventional Tiles
Water droplets form... ...and dirt is left on the surface after drying.
  Hydrotect-coated Tiles
The water spreads as a thin film on the surface and lifts dirt form the surface …

… which can then be easily removed. Result: a clean surface.

Dirt and pollutants stick to the surface coating and wash off with the rain as the water sticks to the tile, rather than being repelled:
